	Statues Statues of Greek, Roman, and Egyptian deities formed a portable pantheon for Roman colonists in Alexandria. Many Alexandrians worshipped Serapis, who blended attributes of Roman and Egyptian gods.
A.D. 1000: Córdoba, Spain
	Koran This sacred text of Islam describes Muhammad as,“a warner and a bringer of good tidings to a people who believe.” Scribes festooned parchment copies with elaborate, abstract designs. (Religious texts bore no images of people or animals lest such pictures lead to idolatry.)
A.D. 2000: New York City, U.S.A.
	Tibetan Amulet Tibetan amulet around her neck and Balinese Buddha on her dresser, this New Yorker demonstrates the ability of Eastern faith to engage Western curiosity. Does Buddhism also engage her heart, or are these merely eclectic accessories?
