Welcome to the interactive adventure of the millennium! Throughout 1998 and 1999 National Geographic will spotlight global issues that will shape human destiny over the next thousand years. The Society thanks its millennium partners for sponsoring this important series and for supporting our education, exploration, and environmental initiatives through the Gifts to the Planet program:

  • Millennium Maps of the World, newly revised and based on the latest cartographic technology, distributed to more than 100,000 K-12 schools in the U.S.
  • Millennium Lesson Plans distributed to 20,000 classrooms in the NGS Alliance
  • The establishment of a Committee for Exploration to continue to push the frontiers of knowledge
