Antonio lives in Boca de Cupe, the closest town to the field camp run by the conservation group ANCON in Cana, Darién Province. We flew into the camp, which is alongside an airstrip cut into the middle of the jungle. But if you're walking, as Antonio was, it's a good eight hours to Boca de Cupe, and that's if you're cruisin'.
Antonio was guiding some ecotourists from Boca de Cupe to Cana. The trail where they were coming from comes out onto the runway and winds up to the cabins. His mule is just carrying provisions for the trek.
