Skiing the Range of Light

Skier Todd Miller testing a new snowfall Skier Todd Miller testing a new snowfall in an effort to avoid avalanches

"It was about 8 a.m. on the third day, and we were climbing up the ridge. Todd was checking the snow with his boots—after the two feet [0.6 meter] of snow the night before, we had to safeguard against avalanches. It turned out that the snow was hard and safe enough for jumps.

"Right behind him you can see the lodge. And the slope in the background is the beginning of the Bread Bowls [see previous photo]. This was a great day of skiing."
