Jasper to Glacier by Bike

Writer Charles Graeber and friend Robin Petravic in Pincher Creek, Alberta, Canada

“This was my first day with Charlie and Robin. I'd seen this happening in my rear view mirror when I was driving. I wanted to capture the feeling of the road emerging from the mountains, while the bikers were dwarfed against the landscape.”

—Photographer Anne Sherwood

Photography Notes

  • Film: Fuji Velvia
  • Camera: Nikon F100
  • Lens: Nikon 80-200mm
  • Shutter speed: 1/250
  • Aperture: F/8
  • Time of day: early morning

“To get this shot, I drove ahead of Charlie and Robin to park the car out of sight—which is tough to do because you don't know exactly where you will end up shooting. It's much easier just to stash a bike behind a tree, but a car is a lot harder to hide.”
