Jasper to Glacier by Bike

Fairmont Hot Springs, British Columbia, Canada

“We stopped for two hours at Fairmont Hot Springs to take a needed break from shooting on the road. While navigating around the unpredictable movements of kids and parents, I noticed these two girls in the background.

“Even though some boys were playing football in a waterfall just a few feet away, these girls were completely indifferent, reclining on their backs as if there were hooked to the edge of a pool in Beverly Hills.”

—Photographer Anne Sherwood

Photography Notes

  • Film: Fuji Velvia
  • Camera: Nikon F100
  • Lens: Nikon 24mm
  • Shutter speed: 1/125th
  • Aperture: F/5.6
  • Time of day: afternoon

“I wanted to capture the hot springs culture in the humor of the moment. I was taken with the graphic, pleasing quality of this scene—the girls in exactly the same position with their matching swim suits and matching oblivious attitudes.”
