America's Top Mountain Bike Trek

Taking a break along a singletrack detour that added extra miles—and fun—to the trek

"This was a scenic place to take a break from riding—there were cow trails, straggly bush, Aspen trees, and a meadow in the background."

—Photographer Steve Casimiro

Photography Notes

  • Film: Kodak Portra 160 NC
  • Camera: Canon EOS-3
  • Lens: 70-200mm, shot at 100mm
  • Shutter speed: 1/1000
  • Aperture: f/4
  • Time of day: Morning

"Before leaving for this trip, I knew I wanted to set up and take this shot. Framing the people through Sinuhe's arm layers the photo but still clearly focuses on the people. When you frame something, you enclose it. With this photo, I wanted to say that the bike experience was framing this moment of resting, and essentially everything we did on the trip."
