America's Top Mountain Bike Trek

Triumph on High Anxiety Point overlooking Utah's Castle Valley

"The Porcupine Rim Trail is really rugged and rocky and one of the best rides in Moab. The whole route is 21 miles [34 kilometers], but you can catch a shuttle from Moab up to the trailhead and catch one back down to Moab at the end."

—Photographer Steve Casimiro

Photography Notes

  • Film: Kodak Portra 160 NC
  • Camera: Canon EOS-3
  • Lens: 20-35mm, shot at 35mm
  • Shutter speed: 1/500
  • Aperture: f/8
  • Time of day: 5:30 p.m.

"As a photographer, I don't want to do what everyone else is doing or what everyone else has done. Here I'm trying to give a sense of place and the sport, and incidentally, the sense of triumph, though I didn't intend it that way.

"This was more of a visual statement of juxtaposition in a scene that had been photographed three billion times, but it's done in a way that I hadn't seen or done before."
