Dolphins are renowned for their surfing antics, but sea lions? This small swell hit the rock reef guarding the landing to Isla Española's Punta Suareza series of consistent left-handers peeling perfectly toward the channel, each one populated by one, two, or three "lobos del mar." One of the guides said that she'd never seen lions surfing there, despite her many trips. They'd leap and spin and jump out in front of waves, but the coolest stint was when they'd cruise like a torpedo just behind the face. The surfers in our groupthere were three of uswere dying to get in the water with them.
