"Given the relationship between Libya and the U.S. over the past two decades, I didn't know what to expect from the locals when we arrived in Tripoli. Within just a few days, I found the Libyans I met to be extremely friendly and hospitable. If I wandered into the medina near Green Square at night, it would be only a few minutes before I was invited to join a table for coffee. My new Libyan friends would want to know where I had been and how I liked their country. In return, I'd ask them about their perceptions of the United States."
