| Nepal on the Brink |
"This photo was taken from a guest house in Ghandruk. You can see Annapurna South in the background. The man in the photo is a South Korean tourist, one of the few trekkers in Nepal these days.
"Nepal is such a beautiful place. I found it difficult to capture on film the eeriness that presides as a result of the war, which is why I also shot black-and-white film. I wanted to differentiate my images from the rosier pictures one identifies with Nepal, which are usually in color. The barbed wire is there to prevent animals from coming in, but I used it to symbolize the tension that is in the country."
