Nepal on the Brink
"Along the Annapurna Circuit, tourists see typical scenes of rural Nepalese life. Here a family is doing laundry. Even though they are poor, they have access to food and are much healthier than their counterparts in Maoist-controlled areas.

"I wanted to shoot this photo into the setting sun because it set off the clothes in a special way—moodier than if I had stood above them on the hill with the sun behind me in a more traditional, technical way. There were people coming in and out of the frame so I just stood in one place and waited for the composition to come together."
