"Life's an Adventure" Reader Photo Album
Photo: a boat on a river
Coming of Age: Israeli Roi Ketsev explores the mysteries of Kashmir, a formerly turbulent region that is now at peace.

"After five years in the Israeli military, I set out on a six-month trip by bus and train throughout India and Nepal. After hearing glowing reports on Kashmir's beauty, I decided I had to see it with my own eyes. I took this photo in Srinagar during a boat ride from Dal Lake to Nagin Lake. It was raining and foggy that day, so I desperately tried to keep my camera dry by hiding it under the roof of my "taxi" boat. In Srinagar, where the thoroughfares are rivers, these shikaras, are the main means of transportation. I like the different expressions on the girls' faces, and I think the photo reflects the mysterious atmosphere of that day."

—Roi Ketsev, 25
Student
Ramat-Gan, Israel

DIY: India's great network of railways and buses can take you almost anywhere. While in Srinagar, don't miss the Mogul gardens, Pahalgam, a beautiful nearby town, and the surrounding lakes. Consider staying on a houseboat, where your host will provide tours and meals, on either the Dal or Nagin lakes.
