"Late in the day after a few encounters with boulders and boulderers, we were almost literally knocked off our feet. The Madonna of rock climbing, Lynn Hill (right), was hanging out with her family in the Gunks. As the first person to free climb El Capitan, Lynn is a pioneer of rock climbing. It was very surreal. Here, she was casually pointing out a bouldering problem she put up named Lynn's Traverse to Senior Editor Cliff Ransom (left). Lynn was sort of saying, 'Hey look, I can do new school, too.'
