During a season when Everest climbers seemed more focused on summit bids than ever before, guide Dan Mazur, 45, and his climbing team made headlines by stopping to help abandoned Australian climber Lincoln Hall, 50, on May 26, 2006. This was just days after a reported 40 climbers passed ailing British climber David Sharp, 34, who later died of exposure at around 27,500 feet (8,382 meters).
Here Mazur tells what happened after his team encountered an alert Hall alone on a narrow ridge at 28,000 feet (8,534-meters). The interview took place in the Adventure editorial office in New York City. Read "The Mad Season" to find more about the rescue.
