My friends and I drove an hour outside of the capital city of Kinshasa to eat fish at one of the restaurants next to the Congo River—a popular weekend outing. Taking photos is not allowed in many areas of the Congo, especially near borders. The police will confiscate cameras from people who try. I took this photo while holding my camera underneath our picnic table. The land on the other side of the river is the Republic of Congo—one of nine countries that borders the Democratic Republic of Congo. —Sarah Bailey
