I took this photo while waiting to cross the Congo River in Kindu. In Kindu, like many African villages and towns located on rivers, the river is the most common spot for washing clothes and bathing. The boat behind her is a pirogue, a dugout boat made from a single tree trunk, used for transporting people and merchandise.
