Here, we are battling thunderstorms off the coast of Guatemala. They were relentless for over 350 miles [563 kilometers]. This part of the trip was an exhausting three days of non-stop wind shifts and torrential downpours. The nights were long and dark, except for bolts of lightning! It was impossible to sleep with my wet blankets and the rough seas. It took me a few days to recover from the sleep deprivation. After this passage I felt much more confident sailing Swell, a 1966 Cal' 40, in stormy weather. —Liz Clark
