Subsistence hunting by villagers living in and around the DRC's national parks is mostly sustainable. It's the commercial poaching operations that bring massive quantities of bush meat into big city markets that are destroying animal popuations.
I toured several markets in Kinshasa and there was a large supply of bushmeat at each. Here, smoked guenons, a small primate, are piled high and on sale for the equivalent of about one dollar each.
