Congo Photo Gallery: Expedition Bonobo The only jungle dwellers more mysterious than the Iyaelima people are the rare bonobo apes that live alongside them. A perilous expedition into the Democratic Republic of the Congo hopes to establish contact that will help preserve them both. Photograph by Robert J. Ross
The Iyalema men continue to hunt small antelope species inside of Salonga National Park. The men employ a traditional method, using dogs to drive antelope toward large nets that they have installed in the forest. Before each hunt, the men gather together and dance in hopes of increasing their chances for success. —Photographer Robert J. Ross
