Our chartered airplane arrived at the grass airstrip at Anga, a small village in the DRC that serves as headquarters for Salonga National Park. The entire village was there to greet us with singing, dancing, and waving in the humid, midday sun. At this point, I realized what I had suspected for a while: Primatologist Jo Thompson has near rock-star status among the villagers living in the remote areas where she has worked.
