At various points on our walk through Salonga National Park, our trail was as clear and wide. At other times, we were literally cutting a path with a machete as we moved. While these clear open trails were less adventuresome than the bushwacking, the open paths were a welcome opportunity to dry off and make good time. —Photographer Robert J. Ross
