"Life's an Adventure" Reader Photo Album Rock Climbing Minnesota's Palisade Head
|

Reader: Fred Sproat, 20, of Eugene, Oregon
The Spot: Phantom Crack at Palisade Head, Minnesota
The Moment: Palisade Head is a gem along Lake Superior's North Shore. You're climbing in a dome of rock, sky, and water. Here Max Ripley is leading on Phantom Crack, a 5.9 trad climb. This is a popular climbing area for people who "trad" climb, or place their own protection instead of relying on bolts and fixed anchors. There is a strong chalk-free ethic along most of the North Shore, which protects the area's natural beauty.
Do-It-Yourself: The folks at W-Trek (www.w-trek.com) in Duluth can help you out with climbing questions about Palisade, as well as the other crags around the area.
