The Spot: This photo was taken at the Redwall Cavern, in the Grand Canyon of the Colorado River
The Moment: Our group of 16 received the last of the 30-day Colorado River permits ever issued. The Grand Canyon can inspire you to an unknown level; it's magical. I had a broken foot, so I couldn't go on any of the hikes, but I rowed my boat all the way down, and personally it was a highlight in my life.
While going through the Marble Canyon section, we stopped for a early lunch in this cavern before getting the good dose of white water waiting for us downstream. I convinced people to gather for a group picture. From deep inside the cavern I called out, "One, two, three!" and everybody jumped at once.
Do-It-Yourself: This adventure rafting expedition was with O.A.R.S. (www.oars.com), which offers the best trips on the market. The Guide to the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon: Lees Ferry to South Cove (second edition) by Tom Martin and Duwain Whitis is very helpful for planning a trip. All of the info you will need can be found at www.grand.canyon.national-park.com/river.htm.
