Ireland Photo Gallery: The Wild West Coast It's Ireland's Gilded Age! So go on: Surf a mythic 40-foot (12-meter) break, kayak the crystalline coastline, and hike the unmarked wilds. But please, for your own good, don't step in the fairy blood. Photograph by Alex di Suvero

Seanchai Eddie Lenihan, who lives near Galway, is one of Ireland's last and most important tellers of spoken stories and tales of fantastic things. In taking his portrait, I needed to shoot so that his reflective glasses didn't hide his eyes. I chose to photograph him in the shade of a tree, as I liked the wooded context. I felt it was right to show him speaking, too, since that's what he does. By the way, shin kay la lay lay is Irish for "that's another story." —Contributing Photographer Alex di Suvero
