Ireland Photo Gallery: The Wild West Coast It's Ireland's Gilded Age! So go on: Surf a mythic 40-foot (12-meter) break, kayak the crystalline coastline, and hike the unmarked wilds. But please, for your own good, don't step in the fairy blood. Photograph by Alex di Suvero

Shooting at the waterline has always been one of my favorite things to do. Even though digital cameras are expense and vulnerable to moisture, I now put them in harm's way, just like the old film days. A wave did come along that dunked my camera, but with no consequences to date
that I have noticed.
Lough Hyne has a tidal flow with two distinct bodies of water. Every time the tide ebbs, the lake gets Class III rapids. The idea with this photo was to get the viewer to taste the seaweed and hear the bubbles, while only implying the kayaks. To do it, I used this formula: big foreground, little background, wide lens. —Contributing Photographer Alex di Suvero
