Music of the Mississippi Delta
If you've ever listened to the blues, or R&B, or hip-hop, you need (that's right, need) to make a pilgrimage to the land that started it all: the Mississippi Delta.

"Listening to Delta blues is like hearing a musical history of American culture," says Atlanta-based photographer Andrew Kornylak, who spent five days last fall paddling from Memphis to Vicksburg along the mighty Mississippi River to shoot our feature "Where the Big River Gets Lost" (August 2007).  

Here, Kornylak shares a glimpse of the musical legacy of bluegrass, gospel, and blues at stops along the way.
