Sea Lions Photo Gallery: A West Coast Eco-War A fleet of doe-eyed whip smart sea lions is laying siege to the Pacific Northwest, wreaking havoc on surf breaks, fishing lines, and endangering salmon runs. Photograph by Ami Vitale
These sea lions live inside one of the world's largest caves, located north of Florence, Oregon. It is home to the only year-round colony of sea lions in North America. Formation of the cavern began about 25 million years ago. It now soars to the height of a 12-story building and stretches the length of a football field. —Photographer Ami Vitale
