The hunt for a sandstone arch is long and treacherous, but mostly long. "I was just so grateful we found them—eventually," says Contributing Photographer Dawn Kish (left). The Flagstaff, Arizona-based photographer found herself (happily) rappelling gravity-defying sandstone while tracking the elusive formations in and around Utah's Canyonlands National Park with Contributing Editor James Vlahos for "The Arch Hunters" (March 2008 issue). "Arches are mesmerizing," she says. "It's like, how did Mother Nature do this?"
