I took this photograph about five hours into our
four-day, 100-mile (161-meter)
Colorado River trip through Utah's Cataract Canyon. The canyon is known for its astonishing sunsets, huge whitewater, and dreamlike scenery. With the thermometer in the triple digits, we took refuge under this overhang to escape the blazing, mid-day heat while making lunch. A member of our group furtively made his way down river, onto the ledge above, and hollered:
'Hey watch this!' I had just enough time to grab the camera and shoot.
