First day, first session: I dropped in a little deep on this one, so I'm staying low to hold my balance. I'm keeping my eye on the clean, green wall ahead—a race track just waiting for me to ride it. I was surprised by how juicy these waves were. Each wave was like a slingshot propelling me forward over the breaking sections.

The waves were phenomenal the first day, and then turned off completely for the following two. Incidentally, my best photos came from the first two hours of shooting on this trip. As a photographer, it was just another lesson not to take good conditions for granted.
