Steve Casimiro
Steve Casimiro is a freelance photographer, writer, and editor. He shoots commercially and is represented by Getty Images. Though he is freelance, National Geographic Adventure keeps him busy as its West Coast editor. He writes and shoots for Adventure and is the magazine's "gear guru," a role that includes penning a monthly gear review column. He also is one of the magazine's main online contributors: His Adventure blog is called "The Adventure Life" and it can be found at theadventurelife.org.

Casimiro joined Powder magazine in 1987 and ran the editorial until September 1998, when the company was purchased by Petersen Publishing. He was the founding editor of Bike magazine and oversaw that for six years.
Steve grew up in Arlington, Virginia; received a journalism degree at George Mason University; worked at USA Today's fledgling online division (in 1984); and then moved to Vermont to work as a reporter for the Burlington Free Press (and be closer to skiing). He now lives in Monarch Beach, California, where he can mountain bike, trail run, surf, and climb year-round, not to mention shoot and test the gear he reviews for Adventure.
