COMMUNITY AT NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC RULES FOR MEMBERS
This statement describes rules for users of the National Geographic website located at www.nationalgeographic.com (the "Site") who register as members of Community at National Geographic ("Community") who are then eligible to upload material, post comments, and provide other content ("User Content") to the Site. Each Community member is also required to read and abide by the Site’s complete Terms Of Service policy.
National Geographic expects that in their participation and postings, its Community members will observe the following rules ("Community Rules"):
- Be Relevant—Each area on the Site is dedicated to a specific topic and designed to help people share information and content that supports National Geographic's mission of inspiring people to care about the world. User Content should be relevant to the topic of the respective page or section.
- Honor Copyrights—User Content may not modify, distribute, or reproduce in any way copyrighted material, trademarks, or other proprietary information belonging to others without obtaining the prior written consent of the owner of such proprietary rights.
- Be Respectful—User Content should include only constructive comments and questions. Flaming and insults are prohibited. User Content that is offensive, libelous, defamatory, indecent, harmful, harassing, intimidating, threatening, hateful, abusive, vulgar, obscene, pornographic, sexually explicit, or offensive in a sexual, racial, cultural, religious, or ethnic context is prohibited.
- Be Private—Exclude personal information, including your email address, IM address, or phone number from any User Content. Community members are prohibited from soliciting personally identifiable information from other users of the Site.
- No Advertising—Community members are prohibited from using the Site for any commercial purpose. User Content shall include no advertising or commercial content whatsoever. Community members are prohibited from providing any User Content that involves the transmission of "junk mail," "chain letters," or unsolicited mass mailings or "spamming."
- Be Truthful—Do not misrepresent your identity. User Content that includes information that is false, misleading, inaccurate, fraudulent, or deceptive, or that promotes illegal activities is prohibited.
- Be Legal—User Content that violates any applicable local, state, national, or international law is prohibited. Community members may provide no User Content or take any action that is designed to interrupt, destroy, or limit the functionality of any computer software or hardware or telecommunications equipment or to interfere with or disrupt the website or services connected to the Site.
Although National Geographic does not routinely monitor User Content, National Geographic reserves the right (but assumes no obligation) to delete, move, or edit any User Content that comes to its attention that National Geographic considers unacceptable or inappropriate, whether for legal or other reasons. Conduct by any Community member that, at the sole discretion of National Geographic, restricts or inhibits any other Community member or user of the Site from using or enjoying the Site will not be permitted. National Geographic reserves the right to refuse access to the Site or revoke Community membership to any user for any reason, including, without limitation, a reasonable belief that the user in question has violated these Community Rules, the Site Terms of Service, any other operating rules or terms posted on the Site, or any of the copyright or trademark laws of the United States.
