Moroccan traveler Abu Abdullah Muhammad Ibn Battuta leaves Tangier at the age of 21 to complete the Hajj. His travels, however, continue for nearly 30 years and take him through the Middle East, southern Russia, India, and China, among many other places—an estimated 75,000 miles (120,700 kilometers) in all. His account of his travels contributes immensely to current understanding of world geography and cultures.
