Photojournalist John Stanmeyer is a co-founding member of VII, a collectively owned photo agency dedicated to documenting environmental, social, and political conflict. He has also been a contract photographer with Time magazine since 1998.
Presently living in Indonesia, American-born Stanmeyer has spent more than seven years focusing on Asian issues. He is at work on a book about AIDS in Asia, and he continues his photographic documentation for a book on the radical changes in Indonesia since 1997.
Stanmeyer has been the recipient of numerous honors, including the Robert Capa Gold Medal Award in 2000 and Magazine Photographer of the Year, as well as numerous World Press and Pictures of the Year awards. His work has been exhibited all over the world.
Stanmeyer's work for National Geographic has included articles on humanitarian aid and malaria.
