Orientations
An exotic jewel squeezed between the lazy Mississippi River and Lakes Pontchartrain and Borgne, the “Big Easy” casts a spell. In 1718, French Creoles settled the area now known as the Vieux Carré, or the French Quarter, with narrow streets and iron balconies. This historic heart of the city is now a lively 70 blocks filled with street musicians and artists. It is best seen on foot.
When to Go
February through May is the best time to visit New Orleans, when the moderate climate coincides with the citys two major festivals, Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest. Summers are extremely hot and humid. Temperatures cool in the early fall which is also a nice time to visit.
