(Washington Pl. +1 201 539 2085. Adm. fee for headquarters) Washington’s troops shivered and starved as much during their winter encampments at Morristown as they did during the 1777-78 Valley Forge winter. In fact, the winter of 1779 proved to be the century’s cruelest. Unable to take the hardships, many of the 10,000 soldiers who had encamped at Morristown deserted Washington. A film at the Visitor Center elucidates the adversities suffered here.
