Founded in 1718 with the construction of a Spanish mission later known as the Alamo, festive San Antonio offers its many visitors a rich array of attractions, the still-standing Alamo being most popular. Nearby is the number two attraction, River Walk, a trail following the San Antonio River several miles through town. At water’s edge you’ll find tropical foliage as well as hotels, shops, and eateries. The city is also justly famed for its museums, public gardens, historic districts, and theme parks.
