Like the Stanislaus NF to the north, Sierra offers both rugged backcountry and developed recreational facilities. Contains parts of five wilderness areas, a stretch of whitewater on the Kings River, groves of giant sequoias, and the mountain-ringed Mammoth Pool Reservoir. 1,303,037 acres [527,320.4 hectares]. Facilities include 1,500 campsites, food services, hiking, boating, boat ramp, bicycling, fishing, horseback riding, hunting, picnic areas, water sports, winter sports, handicapped access.
