Forces of Nature Fund
Grants for Field Research on Natural Phenomena

Chasing tornadoes, probing volcanoes, filming the eye of a hurricane—this is the stuff of great adventure and real-life science. Each year lives and property are lost to the uncontrollable and destructive powers of nature. In Forces of Nature, the new large-format film from National Geographic, you'll witness the awesome power of nature unleashed.

Did You Know?
National Geographic's Forces of Nature Web site won the 2005 People's Voice Webby Award in the science category.
And now, in conjunction with the film's release, National Geographic continues its tradition of supporting field-based research by establishing the Forces of Nature Fund.

Administered through the Society's Committee for Research and Exploration, the fund gives both Society members and film viewers the opportunity to support research that contributes to our understanding of many of the Earth's natural phenomena.

The fund will provide grants for the study of major meteorological and geological events, such as earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, and volcanic eruptions.

In addition to supporting first-rate field science that will better our understanding of these phenomena, the fund will improve the scientific community's natural disaster detection and prediction capabilities—thereby reducing the catastrophic damage inflicted by these natural disasters on communities around the world. Your gift will help!
