Blue Ridge Mountains, Virginia
Photograph by Jim Richardson
The northern starting point of the Blue Ridge Parkway overlooks a sea of tree-carpeted hills in Virginia's Shenandoah National Park. From here, head south and explore one of the most culturally unique and naturally beautiful areas of the United States. The Parkway was designed by a landscape architect, so the aesthetics of the journey take precedence over everything else. Catch an open-air concert of Appalachian folk music, visit a winery, or just open the sunroof and enjoy the ride.
