Have a Howling Good Time!

Using a road map, families can plan a trip from their homes to Yellowstone National Park (or another public wolf-recovery site) to see a gray wolf in its natural habitat. While parents or more experienced children locate highways, determine mileage and compass direction, and prepare a set of written directions, early learners can use a calculator to tally the distance the family travels from place to place. Save the map and information for use on the real trip!

Monitor the movements of gray wolves and enhance your knowledge and understanding of these interesting animals with tracking information from the International Wolf Center and Ralph Maughan’s Wolf Report.

Kay McGough of St. Mary’s School in Edgerton, Ohio, contributed family activities for this Geoguide.
