I’m an adult, but I still love to play in tree houses! From there, if I sit quietly, I can watch animals come and go. My name is Christina Allen and I’m a biologist.

I have studied all kinds of animals in the rain forest. I’ve held tiny bats and birds in my hands. I’ve watched rats hop across the floor of the rain forest with their favorite fruit. I’ve followed the nighttime tracks of shy tapirs. And, I’ve run from a stampeding herd of peccaries. Yikes!

Many trees in the rain forest have been cut down. Animals need trees for homes and for food. I want to learn as much as I can about animals and their homes. Then I can tell people why rain forests and other animal homes should be saved.

I’ve always loved animals—even the creepy crawly ones! When I was only two years old, my mom found me in the back yard pouring a jar of fishing worms all over myself. I was so happy! As I grew up, we had all kinds of pets, from rabbits to dogs and cats, fish, and even a newt!

Today, my job is to ride my bicycle all over the world, teaching kids like you about animals and their homes. Once, I got to dive in the water with sea lions! You and your class can follow along and help me solve mysteries about animals.
