To celebrate the tenth anniversary of our Education Foundation, the National Geographic Society—with support from the American Plastics Council, Kodak, State Farm Insurance, and Subaru of America—has provided a millennial gift to America’s students. In September 1998 the Society shipped a new laminated wall map of the world to every public and private school in the United States. In March 1999 the Society sent the map to every public and private school in Canada. One side of the map shows the political world; the other bears a new satellite-image mosaic of the physical world.

The Society’s Education Foundation supports professional development and training for teachers in each state as well as classroom projects to improve the quality of geography education for U.S. schoolchildren. We hope the new map and these family activities and classroom ideas, based on the U.S. National Geography Standards, will help you learn more about our world.
