Charter Communications, Fox Cable Networks Group Enter Carriage Agreement for National Geographic Channel

ST. LOUIS and LOS ANGELES—Charter Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: CHTR) and Fox Cable Networks Group (FCNG) today announced an affiliation agreement providing for Charter to launch the National Geographic Channel to two-thirds of its customers over the next four years. The agreement was announced by Patty McCaskill, Vice President of Programming and Pay Per View for Charter; Lindsay Gardner, Executive Vice President, Affiliate Sales & Marketing for FCNG; and Laureen Ong, President of the National Geographic Channel in the U.S.

“We’re anxious to provide this exciting new television network from National Geographic to our customers,” Ms. McCaskill said. “Given their worldwide success in publishing and television documentaries, I’m confident this new network will provide added value to our lineups.”

“Charter Communications is respected throughout the programming community for its affinity for the well-executed and the unique value it demands on behalf of its millions of loyal customers,” said Mr. Gardner. “This commitment so early into National Geographic Channel’s history, we believe, represents a critical vote of confidence for our near-term potential and future growth.”

Together with standing agreements between FCNG and other leading cable or satellite operators, Charter’s participation will boost National Geographic’s carriage commitments to 32 million homes over the next five years, or about 40 percent of the nearly 80 million homes now receiving broadband television. National Geographic Channel is currently available in about 10 million cable and satellite homes.

“We’re tremendously privileged at National Geographic Channel to enjoy unparalleled access to many of the world’s most foremost adventurers, archaeologists, scientists, explorers, expeditions and otherwise inquisitive minds,” said Ms. Ong. “Enabling the television audience to participate in not only their discoveries but, perhaps more importantly, their quest, is a tremendous responsibility we will continue to strive our best to fulfill.”

National Geographic Channel debuted Jan. 7, 2001, and provides informational programming distinguished by spectacular imagery, impassioned storytelling and impeccable credibility and authenticity. Its initial slate of primetime programming focuses primarily on the areas of natural history, extraordinary people and places, exploration, scientific discovery and adventure. Among its more than 400 hours of original programs, National Geographic Channel offers a live 7 p.m. ET/PT nightly newsmagazine, “National Geographic Today,” featuring in-depth coverage and insightful reporting on environmental, scientific, and cultural developments from around the globe.

Based at National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C., the National Geographic Channel U.S. is a partnership between National Geographic Television and Fox Cable Networks Group. Fox Cable Networks Group, a wholly owned division of Fox Entertainment Group (NYSE: FOX), includes the more than 20 major domestic cable and satellite networks in which Fox Entertainment Group or News Corporation (NYSE: NWS) hold interests. Together these networks reach more than 245 million television homes, and represent one of the media industry’s largest and most diverse portfolios of major programming assets.

Charter Communications (Nasdaq: CHTR), a Wired World company, is among the nation’s largest broadband communications companies with nearly 7 million customers, after giving effect to a pending acquisition from AT&T Broadband. Charter provides a full range of advanced broadband services to the home, including cable television under the Charter Cable TV brand; advanced digital video programming services under the Charter Digital Cable brand; and high-speed Internet access via Charter Pipeline.
