ROGER ENRICO ELECTED TRUSTEE OF NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC BOARD
WASHINGTONRoger A. Enrico, 56, former chairman and CEO of PepsiCo Inc., has been elected to the National Geographic Societys board of trustees, Society President John Fahey has announced.
National Geographics 24 trustees are leaders in science, education, law, business, finance, government and public service.
The 113-year-old Society, one of the largest nonprofit scientific and educational organizations in the world, reaches nearly 200 million people each month through National Geographic, National Geographic Traveler, National Geographic Adventure and National Geographic World magazines, the National Geographic Channel, books, videos, maps and interactive media. The Society has funded more than 7,000 scientific research projects and supports an education program combating geographic illiteracy.
National Geographic is fortunate to have the additional counsel and experience of Mr. Enrico, who has a long and impressive record of leadership and service in the business field, both in the United States and internationally, Fahey said.
Enrico was chairman and CEO of PepsiCo, one of the worlds largest consumer products companies, from 1996 to May 2001, when he became vice chairman of the PepsiCo board.
As chairman and CEO, Enrico led PepsiCo through major restructuring, refocusing the corporation on convenient snacks and beverages. Under his leadership, PepsiCo spun off its restaurant business as an independent company, launched an initial public offering of The Pepsi Bottling Group, acquired Tropicana, the world leader in branded juices, and in 2000 announced plans to merge with The Quaker Oats Company.
Enrico has played a major part in PepsiCos growth since joining the corporation in 1971. He has held senior positions in the United States and internationally, including serving as chief executive officer of the companys Pepsi-Cola worldwide beverage industry and then its worldwide Frito-Lay snack business.
He was elected to the PepsiCo board of directors in 1987. He serves on the board of directors of Target Corporation, The A.H. Belo Corporation, EDS, Advanced Medicine Inc., Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and The National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education.
He is a member of the Babson College Corporation and is on the board of trustees of the Eisenhower Exchange Fellowships and the executive board of the Dallas Symphony Association.
Enrico is a graduate of Babson College in Wellesley, Mass., with a bachelors degree in finance. He lives in Dallas and is married with one son.
