“Jade: Ch’ing Dynasty Treasures” from the National Museum of History, Taiwan, will grace Explorers Hall from October 8, 1998, through January 17, 1999.

Jade carving reached its technical and artistic peak during the Ch’ing dynasty of China (1644-1912). See how the experienced hands of the era’s artisans have transformed the jade family of minerals, nephrite and jadeite, into elegant, complex works of art. Marvel at the beauty of jade in all its colors and variations.

Sponsored by the National Museum of History, Taiwan, and the Bowers Museum of Cultural Art in Santa Ana, California, this exhibit presents jade works ranging from teapots to wine glasses, vases to snuff bottles, and portraying intricate portraits, landscapes, and symbolic designs.
