Now this is sailing. The Star Clipper, a replica of a 19th-century clipper ship, can slice through the Caribbean at 12 knots. She carries almost 200 passengers and boasts modern luxuries beneath those traditional sails.

The Star Clipper sails the old-fashioned way. She captures gusts of wind in her sails, some 36,000 square feet (3,340 square meters) of them. Hoisting all that canvas is tough work; extra hands are welcome, should you want a real taste of a sailor's lot.

Despite her conservative silhouette, the Star Clipper is liberal with creature comforts: a pair of pools, gourmet meals in an Edwardian dining room, even a teak-paneled library. |
