6.  WATER LEAKS
Leak detection is a constant activity for the Department of Environmental Protection. Traveling along buried streambeds, water may appear blocks away from its source. Sonar and other high-tech equipment is used to find leaks; when all else fails, Egbert L. Viele’s topographical atlas, created in 1874, may come to the rescue.
