2.  DEEP ROCK
Some of the bedrock under New York formed 450 million years ago in the Atlantic Ocean, but a collision between the protocontinents of North America and Africa pushed the rock to its present location. There is little visible difference between the rock cliffs in northern Manhattan and exposed rock in Africa’s Rift Valley.
